The 2023 IBJJF Pan Ams is the second significant competition of the year. With a record number of competitors this year, Pan Ams is becoming bigger and bigger every year. It was worth watching. The competition was fierce, and the performances and matchups were extraordinary.

Nicholas Meregali – King In 2023

Nicholas Meregali was one of the competition’s biggest stars. When competing in BJJ gi again, the current IBJJF world champion showcased his superiority by winning two gold medals at Pans.

He won six by submission in seven fights and choked out all three of his opponents in the extreme heavyweight division. He dominated the absolute bracket, finishing with a smother submission from Mount and two more chokes from the back. Nicholas Meregali defeated Erich Munis 11-0 in the championship round.

Meregali’s victory over Munis contrasted with his previous performance at Worlds, where he split his two matches with the representative of Dream Art in tight contests with low scores. Meregali won his seventh and eighth major IBJJF PAN titles at the black belt ranks with these first Pans titles of his career.
