Maintaining a true-to-size fit is crucial as a looser gi can give your opponent an easier grip. These best BJJ gis vary in the GSM and the fabrication. Depending upon your requirement, you can select which type of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu suits you.

Our latest launched Kombat Kratos BJJ Gi is manufactured using TX2 Silver nanoparticles. It has improved the quality of fabric, color, and design. The utilization of nanoparticles locks the odor for a more extended period. The presence of inner layers in Kratos BJJ gi keeps the players dry and prevents friction during the jiu jitsu training and matches.

Jiu Jitsu Gi Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked queries regarding the Brazilian jiu jitsu gis.

How BJJ Gi Were Added In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

The BJJ Gi, also known as a Jiu Jitsu kimono, is a conventional martial arts attire comprising a jacket, trousers, and a BJJ belt. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi has a rich heritage in traditional Japanese martial arts and is the typical attire for numerous arts like karate and Judo.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi was derived from the Judo Gi, which was designed to be shorter and tighter than the conventional samurai Gi. The purpose of good quality BJJ gis is to offer the comfort and the maximum flexibility to perform any jiu jitsu technique during training and competition.

As BJJ transformed into its unique form in the 20th century, the Jiu Jitsu kimono also changed. The Judo Gi is ideal for throws, but it’s somewhat uncomfortable for a lot of the groundwork in jiujitsu. Hence, the BJJ Gi was created, a leaner, more refined version of the traditional martial arts attire.

Eventually, Jiu Jitsu gis was produced in colors other than white, and competitors started adding team patches to their Gi, resulting in a unique appearance compared to the conventional style of most Judo Gis.

How Can I Select A Quality BJJ GI?

The appropriate Gi for your requirements can differ based on your comfort level, training needs, and the duration of your training sessions. Beginners might want to think about a single or double weave gi, whereas experienced practitioners may opt for a high quality pearl weave gi.

When selecting a BJJ gi, durability is a crucial factor to consider, given that these uniforms are frequently pulled and laundered. The weave design, fabric heaviness, and shell material are the primary elements that influence durability.

The comfort and fit of a Jiu Jitsu Gi can significantly differ. Comfort is determined by several key aspects, such as the size of the collar, the length of the sleeves & the tightness of the cuffs, and the overall weight (which will impact your perspiration levels). Your Gi should provide freedom of movement during your rolls without any restrictions. It should also be sturdy enough to endure the intense training sessions typical Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners.

Choosing the perfect BJJ Gi depends on the following factors:

  • Correct fit and size
  • Material used in Gi construction
  • Weave pattern
  • Weight
  • Cost/budget
  • Color and design

Does A Men BJJ Gi Come With A Belt?

A standard adult Jiu Jitsu gi comes with only the jacket and pants, as the belt, which signifies rank, is typically not included. BJJ belts can be purchased separately on our website. You can order the Fearless COMP 450 GSM Set, which comes with a Black BJJ belt.

Which Color BJJ GiS Should I Choose?

When purchasing your next Jiu Jitsu gi, picking the right color for your requirements is crucial. In IBJJF contests, only white, black, and blue are allowed. However, most schools don’t impose restrictions on the colors you can wear during practice. We offer a fantastic jiu jitsu gi range in all colors including white, black, and blue.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but there’s ample opportunity to express your style when purchasing a BJJ Gi.

What Happens If My Gi Doesn’t Fit?

If you mistakenly order an ill-fitting gi, there’s no cause for alarm! You can return it and swap it for the right size if it hasn’t been used. Even if you’re familiar with your usual gi size, we recommend checking the specific gi sizing chart before making a purchase. Kombat USA has provided a size chart for our every product so you can buy the perfect BJJ gi.

Does My Gi Have A Tendency To Shrink?

The majority of BJJ gis are “pre shrunk”, however, you should exercise caution when laundering to maintain a perfect fit.

How Many Gis Should I Have?

The number of gis you should own is contingent on your dedication level. One gi might suffice if you train only a few times a week. However, most dedicated Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioners and competitors have between 3-7 gis that they use on a rotating basis, given the necessity to wash your gi after each training session.

What Fabric Are BJJ Gis Made From?

After determining your gi size, the next step is to choose the fabric. The following are the most commonly used weave materials:

  • Pure cotton
  • A blend of cotton, polyester, and nylon
  • Weave of bamboo fiber

Cotton is the most commonly utilized material for gi. It’s usually the most affordable, along with cotton blends.

Although cotton is used frequently, it can also become stiff and coarse over time. This issue can be avoided with higher quality blends and BJJ Gi brands.

Cotton blends combine synthetic polyester and nylon with the cotton, resulting in a weave with more flexibility, potentially enhancing moisture wicking and maintaining softness for longer. Premium gis are occasionally made from a blend of bamboo fiber. This material is light, breathable, and often has a silky interior. Although bamboo is technically the ‘superior’ Gi material, most bamboo weaves are associated with a substantial price tag.

Styles Of Gi Weave

The weave refers to the method in which the cotton or other fibers are interlaced, affecting the weight, durability, and softness of the Gi. Lighter weaves are typically more comfortable, but they may also provide an easier grip for your opponent. If you’re planning to compete in gi, these differences should be taken into account.

Here are the most frequently used Jiu Jitsu Gi weave styles:

  • Cotton single weave
  • Pearl weave
  • Gold weave
  • Double weave
  • Ripstop fabric

The cotton single weave is lightweight, affordable, and is often preferred for training in hot weather due to its superior moisture-wicking and heat dispersion properties. However, its thin material is prone to tearing and may not withstand heavy use.

Pearl weave is the most popular weave for BJJ gis. It’s robust and long-lasting, resembling a string of pearls woven together. Despite its rough exterior, pearl weaves are versatile gis that come at reasonable prices.

In terms of durability and total weight, gold weave lies between single and double weave. Initially, it was the sole weave permitted in contests, but this rule has been modified. Double weave is a robust blend of two single weaves. Consequently, they are approximately twice as heavy but considerably more resilient than single weave. Despite their longevity and difficult grip, they contribute substantial weight and are not breathable.

Understanding Men Jiu Jitsu Gi Weights

Though the weave contributes to the gi’s weight, the weights of various fabrics can differ significantly, even within the same weave type.

The weight of BJJ Gis is usually specified in GSM (grams per square meter), which is a measure of the fabric’s density. The GSM can range from a light 350 to a heavy-duty 1000 GSM or more. Every gi you purchase should indicate the GSM so you can determine its exact weight.

While many people prefer a lightweight gi for regular training and competitions, these gis present their own set of problems. Lightweight gis tend to be less durable, while heavier ones can restrict your movement and cause you to overheat during training sessions.

What Is The Recommended Frequency For Washing My BJJ Gi?

It is essential to wash your Jiu Jitsu Gi after each training session, preferably before it completely dries. The mat harbors bacteria and fungi, so it’s crucial to thoroughly clean your gi after each session to prevent any skin conditions.

Incorporating a bit of vinegar, baking soda, or another odor neutralizer into your laundry routine can provide extra defense against the infamous smelly gi condition.
